MSFW InstaSale was created in response to a brief presented by IBM and the City of Melbourne, provided with masses of Instagram and Twitter data, I was challenged to use #MSFW social media data to enhance the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week experience. The solution was an interactive, socially-fueled sales promotion.

The aim of the #MSFWInstaSale application is to create a platform where retailers can promote sales during Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW) as well as to create an engaging experience for both MSFW attendees and the general public. The application assists users to find discounted items and share their own purchases with others during the event.

Stores taking part in the promotion place MSFW InstaSale tags on selected items in their store. When shoppers try on the garment they share a photo of them self wearing the item with #MSFWInstasale to receive a discount. The photos shared by shoppers using the hashtag are then featured on interactive displays throughout the MSFW event area. Data displayed will include the discount on offer and the location of the store where the photo was taken, allowing other shoppers to find and purchase the same item.
